Adri Tavares [ay-dree tuh-var-ehz][she/her] is a second-generation Indo-Canadian film and theatre artist of the trans experience.
Adri was born and raised in Mississauga, Canada as the child of Indian immigrants. She has a degree in business from Western University’s Ivey Business School where she specialized in entrepreneurship and sustainability.
She is an alumna of The AMY Project where she co-devised and performed in "Almeida: the Glorious" an “original creation exploring personal power, relationships with our ancestors and descendants” (Canadian Stage, SummerWorks 2017) and produced several programs for queer Toronto youth.
Adri wrote and performed in an original musical short film, "In My Mother’s Closet" that screened at 17 festivals globally, including Inside Out Film Festival, San Francisco Transgender Film Fest, and Boston Wicked Queer Fest. She narrated audiobook versions of prolific Canadian LGBT novels, Fierce Femmes & Notorious Liars by Kai Cheng Thom (2019) and Little Fish by Casey Plett (2020). She was recognized as one of 20 emerging film artists by ReelWorld Festival E20 Fellowship in 2017 alongside Simu Liu.
Adri spent seven years working in Toronto as a talent researcher and data analyst for various hyper-growth tech companies during. Upon hitting her Saturn Return, Adri left her tech career and moved to New York City to become a full-time artist.
Adri trained in classical and contemporary acting at the Stella Adler Studio and has studied with Elena Zucker, Bill Bowers, Noel Wilson, Melissa Maxwell and Joan Evans. She has coached privately with Vivien Endicott-Douglas and Louisa Burgess-Corbett.
Adri has a taste for writing and performing absurd characters. She is always interested in playing inside the dark, grotesque and twisted shades of getting lost while trying to find yourself in wonderland/the matrix/this mad mad world.
